UNTO US

Isaiah 9 :
6. For unto us a Child is born;
unto us a Son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder.
These will be his royal titles:
"Wonderful," "Counselor," "The Mighty God,"
"The Everlasting Father," "The Prince of Peace."

One great truth that is emphasises in this verse is that our heavenly Father sent this Child, His Son, for our benefit. Jesus Christ came UNTO US human beings. What wonderful news.
The first phrase, "unto us a Child is born", speaks of the humanity of the Lord Jesus.
The second phrase, "unto us a Son is given", speaks of his deity. It lets us know that He existed before He was "given".

But there is another implication to that second phrase, "a Son is given". The Son spoken of here is of the calibre of someone who can re-instate the family name. What does this mean for us to whom He was given?

When humans sinned, we lost our standing in heaven: we died where our relationship with God was concerned.
But the Lord Jesus came with the purpose of re-instating our standing in heaven, of bringing us alive again in our relationship with our heavenly Father. And He succeeded at that by dying to pay for our sins and then coming back alive from the dead to ensure that we could approach our heavenly Father justified, or "just as if we never sinned".

The angel who made the announcement to the shepherds in the field put it this way:
"I bring you the most joyful news ever announced, and it is for everyone! The Savior - yes, the Messiah, the Lord - has been born tonight in Bethlehem!
How will you recognize him? You will find a baby wrapped in a blanket, lying in a manger!"
Luke 2:10-12 (LB)

Prayer:
Father, thank You for sending Your Son, whom You love, to pay the price to reinstate human honour in Your presence.
Today I approach You with great thankfulness,
in the mighty name of the Lord Jesus Christ,
whose name is above all others in power and authority,
Amen.
